The Private Variants page displays your Y-DNA SNPs that are not on the list of known SNPs. These markers may or may not be unique to you as an individual. Men in related lineages may share some private variants. As men from distantly related lineages test, SNP markers may be moved from Private Variants to Named Variants.
On this page, you can search by SNP name or position. You can also use the SNP Checker feature on this page to check for any position, regardless of the call on your specific test.
The Big Y Private Variants page contains the following features:
- Private Variants - Indicates which page of your Big Y results you are viewing. You can toggle between them by clicking on each tab..
- Download Files - Download your Big Y data in a variety of formats. Read more about Big Y - Data Downloads here.
- SNP Checker - Check for any position, regardless of the call on your specific test. You can read more about the SNP Checker here.
- Position - The location of the variant on the Y chromosome. This position corresponds to the GRCh38 human reference genome, which is maintained by the Genome Reference Consortium.
- Position Search - Search for any named chromosome locations where you have a positive SNP. Clicking on any Position in this column will pull up a pop-up window displaying that SNP's location in the SNP Checker.
- Ancestral - Displays the nucleotide base indicated by the GRCh38 human reference genome, which is maintained by the Genome Reference Consortium.
- Derived - Displaysthe current DNA nucleotide you have at that position.
