At FamilyTreeDNA, your DNA results are registered to the kit number of the sample kit you submitted. This number is emailed to you when the kit is first purchased, and can also be found on the collection kit box and test vials.
If you are a Group Project Administrator, you will have a GAP username and password to sign in. All other account holders will need their kit number and password.
Signing Into Your Account
To sign in to your FamilyTreeDNA account:
- Navigate to https://www.familytreedna.com/
- Click or tap the Orange Sign In button.

From here, you will be taken to a page to enter your Kit Number/GAP username and password
- Enter your Kit Number or GAP Username.
- Enter your Password.
- Use this eye symbol
to display the characters in your password instead of dots. This can help you verify you have entered your password correctly.
- Click the orange Sign In button after you have entered your Kit Number/GAP username and password.
- Use these links if you run into trouble.
After you click Sign In, you will be prompted to set up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) if you have not already done so. You may skip this step if you wish. If you opt out of 2FA, you will now be signed in and redirected to your main dashboard. If you have enabled 2FA, please see the section below for more details.

After entering your Kit Number/GAP username and password, you will be directed to the Two-Factor Authentication page.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT NAVIGATE AWAY FROM THIS PAGE TO CHECK YOUR EMAIL. Instead, open your email in a separate tab or by using the email app of your choice. If you navigate away from this page to check your email, it will expire as soon as you leave the page.

Enter verification code - Check your email inbox in a separate browser tab or on your phone's email app. The email address where the verification was sent is displayed on this page.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT navigate away from this page to check the code. - Remember this device for 30 days - This option will prevent the need to re-enter a verification code every time you access your account from a device you trust. You should only use this option on a home computer or personal device, and never on a public computer, such as one in a genealogy library.
- Confirm / Sign in as a different user - Use these options to enter the code or to go back to the sign in page to enter a different Kit Number.

Resend - Clicking this will send a new verification code. The code may take up to a few minutes to appear in your inbox. It may also be directed to a spam or junk folder depending on your email account settings. Wait a few minutes before requesting a new code.
