This article is for accounts that have been connected to a MyHeritage account. If you have not linked your account to a MyHeritage account, please see our Managing Your Archived FamilyTreeDNA Tree article
Accessing tree settings
To access your Tree Settings page:
- Sign in to your kit.
- In the upper-right corner of the page, hover your cursor over your name/Kit No.,
- Click Account Settings from the drop-down menu
- Click on Account Settings
- Click on Genealogy page
- You are directed to the Family Tree tab of the Genealogy Page.
Link/Change Home Person
If you have connected your MyHeritage account but have not selected a home person for the tree, you have the option to identify the root individual in your tree (usually yourself or the tester whose kit you manage) by clicking the Link Home Person button, then selecting the appropriate name from the list that appears.
If you have established a home person for your tree, a Link My Matches button will be shown instead of Link Home Person button.
For more information on linking and unlinking matches, please see our Linking Matches On Your Tree article.
Family Tree Settings Options
Once you have connected your account to a Myheritage Account, your Family Tree tab settings have the following options:
- Disconnect from my MyHeritage account allows you to disconnect your account. If you have connected to the wrong MyHeritage account, you can also use this to disconnect and connect to the correct account.
- Link Your Matches – This feature allows you to select DNA matches and attach them to specific individuals (nodes) in your family tree.
Note: No information is removed from MyHeritage. Any tree they previously had on MyHeritage will still exist there and any account you created/used will still exist there.
Privacy settings
MyHeritage's tree privacy settings are slightly different than FamilyTreeDNA’s. On FamilyTreeDNA, your tree can be private, shared with matches, or public (shared with any kit via a link). On MyHeritage your tree can be private, shared with site members, or public. If a tree on MyHeritage is shared with only site members, MyHeritage will display a screen that allows users to contact the site owner for access.
Customers can view a tree without a MyHeritage account if it is public. If a tree is shared with only site members, the customer must be signed into a MyHeritage account and that account must be a site member.
Project Preferences
If you have linked your tree to MyHeritage, you can grant permission to project administrators to upload and manage a tree for you on MyHeritage. This can be done on the Project Preferences page in your Account Settings.
