Introduction
If you wish to purchase DNA collection kits for multiple people in a single transaction, there are various options available for materials and shipping fees. This varies depending on the number of kits ordered and preferred shipping method. If you would like to purchase collection kits without designated test takers and/or test types, you have the option to order blank collection kits. To do so you must contact customer service to place the order on your behalf.
Ordering 1 - 4 Kits
Orders containing fewer than five (5) kits can be placed through our online shopping cart. The combined shipping and handling charges for standard shipping orders are as follows:
- Single kit (first kit) – $9.95 USD
- Additional Kit – $4.95 USD (per additional kit) A kit is considered to be an “additional kit” when the kit is purchased in addition to the “first kit” in the same order.
Example: If you order three kits with standard shipping, the shipping and handling cost is $19.85 ($9.95 + $4.95 + $4.95 = $19.85).
For International and domestic orders, FamilyTreeDNA uses DHL eCommerce shipping. Transit time is usually between 5–7 business days for domestic (U.S.) shipments. However, depending on your location, it may be as many as 10 business days. International orders can take several weeks to arrive depending on the delivery location.
NOTE: This is the cost for most international locations. Depending on your location, the cost might be higher.
Ordering five (5) or more kits
For orders of five (5) or more kits being sent to a single location, we charge a single shipping fee for the entire order instead of Shipping and Handling for each kit. You must contact customer support for assistance in placing bulk orders. The shipping cost will vary depending on destination and the chosen shipping method. Please have the mailing address for your shipment available when you contact customer service. They will then contact the shipping department for the cost of available shipping methods.
NOTE: We cannot ship bulk orders to P.O. Boxes.
Payment Options
If you wish to purchase blank collection kits, with test takers and test types to be determined at a later date, we charge a small materials fee for each kit. There are two options depending on collection kit types:
- Boxed Kits - This is a standard collection kit. For bulk orders the cost is $5 per kit fee for materials and labor.
- Basic Packaging - This is a plain silver mailing envelope and return envelope for each kit. For bulk orders the cost is $3 per kit fee for materials and labor.
If you are ordering specific tests (e.g. three (3) Y-37 tests and two (2) Family Finder tests), we will waive the materials fees, but the tests must be paid at the time of purchase. If you know the types of tests you wish to get, but plan to pay for them at a later date, you must order blank collection kits. You will be able to place orders on these kits for specific test types at a later date. Placing an order for multiple tests in a single invoice requires the entire invoice to be paid before any test can be processed in our lab.
