Using the Admin - Haplogroup Project Recommendations

Haplogroup Project Recommendations allow Y-DNA haplogroup Project Administrators to participate in recommendations that will grow Y-DNA projects and their communities of users. This optional setting allows administrators to select up to five branches for which they want to focus their project(s).

Accessing Haplogroup Project Recommendations

To access this page:

  1. Sign in to your GAP account by entering your Project Administrator username and password.
  2. On the navigation bar, hover your cursor over Project Admin and click Project Profile on the drop-down menu.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the Project Profile Page.

    OR

    In the lower section of your GAP dashboard, in the Project Administration section, click Project Profile and scroll to the bottom of the Project Profile Page.

The Haplogroup Project Recommendations setting has the following controls:

  1. Select this check box to opt into recommendations. The recommendations that are shown are the five branches that have the largest number of project members on them. The number in parenthesis next to each branch indicates the number of project members belonging to that branch. 
  2. Use the check boxes to select or deselect up to five (5) branches.
  3. Click on this boxed arrow icon to view the branch on the Public Y-DNA Haplotree, which will open in a new tab.
  4. Click Request a specific branch to request a branch that is not listed among the top five. 

Requesting a specific branch

To request a specific branch, follow the steps below:

  1. Click on the empty field that appears when you click Request a specific branch
  2. Begin typing the branch you want to add.
  3. A drop down list will appear matching the branches that filter based on the entered input. (Note: In the drop-down list, the number of members in that branch is displayed in parenthesis.)
  4. When a branch is listed in the drop-down list that you want to request, click on it to enter it in the field. If you enter a branch that does not exist, No Result is displayed.
  5. Once you have requested a branch, you can select it using the checkbox next to that branch. You can also delete the requested branch using the trashcan icon to the right of the branch namerequested branch.png
  6. Click the Save button in the lower-left corner of the page to save your selected, deselected,  requested, and deleted branches.

Note: If you are able to select the branch as a request and add it to your profile, the process is complete. No additional action from Customer Service is required.

 

Important Items to Note

  • If you have already selected the top five populated branches and then enters a Requested Branch. The Requested Branch is disabled. One of the top five branches must be deselected to enable the Requested Branch.
  • More than one Requested Branch is allowed; however, only five branches can be selected at one time.
  • Branch edits (additions and removals) are listed on the Group Project’s Activity Log page.
  • Recalculations – When one of the top five populated branches is no longer part of the top five due to a calculation, the new replacement branch is displayed in the top five branches list and the older branch is then displayed in the Requested Branch section.
