Private and Deceased Blocks on the Tree

There are two indicators on the Family Tree to notify users that:

  • A relative is marked as deceased and will be displayed to matches.
  • A relative is private and will not be displayed to matches.

Deceased Relatives

To assist users to see which matches are deceased and thus displayed to others* when they share their tree, a deceased icon is now displayed on the relative’s block.

This icon is a gray slash located in the upper-left corner of a relative’s block.

The deceased icon is displayed when:

  • The relative is marked deceased.
  • The relative is marked deceased and has a date of death entered.
  • Both the tree owner and others* who view their tree will see this icon.

Important: Relatives who have an entered date of birth that is more than 100 years ago are still displayed to others*. However, there is no icon displayed on these blocks.

Private Relatives

To assist users to see which matches are displayed as Private to others* when they share their tree, an information icon is now displayed on the relative’s block.

This information icon is a gray i icon located in the upper-right corner of a relative’s block.

The information icon is displayed when:

  • When the relative is not marked deceased AND:
    • Does not have an entered date of birth.

OR

  • The entered date of birth is less than 100 years ago.
  • Only the tree owner will see this icon.
