Using the Admin - Paternal Ancestry Report

The Paternal Ancestry report allows Project Administrators to evaluate project members according to information they have entered about their paternal ancestry.

Accessing the Paternal Ancestry Report

To access this report:

  1. Sign in to your GAP account by entering your Project Administrator username and password.
  2. On the navigation bar, hover your cursor over Reports > Member Reports, and click Paternal Ancestry on the drop-down menu.

    OR

    In the lower section of your GAP dashboard, in the Member Reports section, click Paternal Ancestry
    You are directed to the Paternal Ancestry page.

Controls and Columns

The Paternal Ancestry report contains the following controls:

  • Show Advanced Filter – Click to display the following fields:
    • Name – Allows you to filter/search the table by member name.
    • Country – Allows you to filter/search the table by paternal country of origin.
    • Paternal Ancestor Name – Allows you to filter/search the table by the name of the earliest known direct paternal ancestor.
    • Map Location – Allows you to filter/search the table by the location of the earliest known direct paternal ancestor.
  • Export Spreadsheet – Click to export the Paternal Ancestry table to a spreadsheet.

The Paternal Ancestry report contains the following columns:

  • Kit Number – Project member’s kit number that was assigned with their first order. You may click on the kit number to view their results if they have set their Account Settings Project Preferences Group Administrator Access level to either Limited or Advanced.
  • Name – Name of the project member provided on the project member’s FamilyTreeDNA Account Settings Contact Information tab.
  • Sub Group – Displays the Y-DNA subgroup to which the project member is assigned. This column is blank if the member is not assigned to a Y-DNA subgroup. Members are assigned to subgroups in the Member Subgrouping tool.
  • Email – Primary email address provided on the project member’s FamilyTreeDNA Account Settings Contact Information tab.
  • Country – Paternal country of origin associated with the project member as provided on the member’s Account Settings Earliest Known Ancestors tab. If the project member does not have this information entered, Unknown Origin is displayed in this column.
  • Comment – Any additional information provided to FamilyTreeDNA staff by the project member.
  • Paternal Ancestor Name – Name of the earliest known direct paternal ancestor as provided by the project member on the Earliest Known Ancestors tab. If the project member has not entered this information, this column is blank.
  • Map Location – Known location of the earliest known direct paternal ancestor as provided on the member’s Earliest Known Ancestors tab. If the project member has not entered this information, No Location Saved is displayed in this column.
  • Latitude – Latitude of the recorded location of the earliest known direct paternal ancestor as provided on the member’s Earliest Known Ancestors tab. If the project member does not have this information entered, 0 is displayed in this column.
  • Longitude – Longitude of the recorded location of the earliest known direct paternal ancestor as provided on the member’s Earliest Known Ancestors tab. If the project member does not have this information entered, 0 is displayed in this column.
  • Tree – Specifies whether or not the member has a family tree on their FamilyTreeDNA account. The family tree icon is displayed in purple when the member has a family tree and gray when the member does not have a family tree. When the member has a family tree, you can click on this icon to view their tree.

Each column may be sorted in ascending or descending order. To sort in ascending order (A->Z or 1->10), click on the column name once. To sort in descending order (Z->A or 10->1), click on the column name twice.
