At FamilyTreeDNA, user privacy is an extremely high priority for us and something we take seriously. Below is our transparency report covering law enforcement requests not applicable to our Terms of Service..

In certain circumstances, FamilyTreeDNA may be required by law to comply with a valid court order, valid trial, grand jury, subpoena, or search warrant for genetic or personal information. In these cases, FamilyTreeDNA requires valid legal process in order to consider producing any information about our users when not applicable to our Terms of Service.

Summary

  • FamilyTreeDNA has not received any valid subpoenas for FamilyTreeDNA user information since the original posting date of this report in 2019.

National Security Requests

As of March 30, 2022, FamilyTreeDNA has never received a National Security Letter, an order under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, or any other classified request for user information pursuant to the national security laws of the United States or any other country.

Law Enforcement Information

In certain circumstances, FamilyTreeDNA may be required by law to comply with a valid court order, valid trial, grand jury, subpoena, or search warrant for genetic or personal information that is not applicable under our Terms of Service. FamilyTreeDNA requires valid legal process in order to consider producing information about our users.

In the U.S., law enforcement officials may prohibit this disclosure by submitting a court order pursuant to 18 U.S.C. ยง 2705(b) or state statute signed by a judge. We will assess requests not to notify users from law enforcement outside the U.S. under applicable law.
