Big Y - Matching (Matches) Guide

The Big Y - Matches page displays all Big Y testers with thirty (30) or fewer mismatching SNPs. A mismatching SNP means that you have a mutation that your match does not, or vice-versa.

  1. Matching - This indicates which page of your Big Y Results you are viewing. You can toggle between them by clicking on each tab.
  2. Download Files - Download your Big Y data in a variety of formats. Read more about Big Y - Data Downloads here.
  3. View Match Time Tree - Directs you to the FamilyTreeDNA Discoverâ„¢ Match Time Tree.
  4. View Big Y Block Tree - Directs you to your Big Y Block Tree.
  5. SNP Checker - Check for any position, regardless of the call on your specific test. You can read more about the SNP Checker here.
  6. Match Name - Big Y testers with fewer than thirty (30) Non-Matching Variants. Matching suggests a shared ancestor on your direct paternal line. More matches may be found on the block tree.
  7. Name Search - Search for a specific match by name.
  8. Match Order - Arranges your matches alphabetically from A to Z, or Z to A.
  9. Non-Matching Variants - Displays the variants (SNPs) within your subclade that you and the specified match do not share. When you and a match do not have any non-matching variants, no SNP names will be listed for that match.
    NOTE: These can include both private and named variants.
  10. SNP Name Search field - Search for matches by specific SNP names or locations within the non-matching variants.
  11. Non-Matching Variants Order - Arranges matches from the fewest Non-matching Variants to the most, or vice versa.
  12. Match Date - Displays the date you were identified as a match.
    NOTE: If you or a match upgrades from a Big Y or Big Y-500 to a Big Y-700 test, this date will be updated to the date the new results are posted.
  13. Match Date search - Search by a specific date. This can be helpful if you receive a match notification email with a timestamp.
  14. Match Date Order - Arranges matches from newest to oldest, or vice versa.
