Security Tab

The Security tab is where you can change your password and update your security settings, such as two-factor authentication and adding a recovery email.

Navigating the Security Tab

The Password tab can be found in your Account Settings after you have signed in. You can read about accessing your account settings here. The Security Tab contains the following options:

  1. Account Information - This indicates that you are on the Account Information page of your Account Settings. You can navigate to other pages by clicking on each item in this row.
  2. Security - This indicates that you are on the Account Information page of your Account Settings. You can navigate to other pages by clicking on them in this row.
  3. Password - This section lets you change your password. You will need to have your current password handy to change it from this page. If you have forgotten your password, you can request a reset email from the main sign in page. For more information on resetting your password, take a look at this article.
  4. Save - This button will be greyed out until all fields in the Password section are completed.
  5. Two-factor authentication - This section explains two-factor authentication and indicates whether or not you have enabled it.
    NOTE: This section will appear differently from the graphic above if you have not enabled two-factor authentication.
  6. Recovery email - Lists the email address you have currently assigned as your recovery email.Your recovery email is where your one-time-use authentication code will be sent if you cannot access it from your primary email address.
  7. Reset two-factor authentication - This allows you to update the primary and recovery email addresses.
  8. Disable two-factor authentication - This will disable the need to enter a verification code every time you sign in. You can reselect this added security measure at any time.
    NOTE: Two-factor authentication is mandatory for GAP usernames.


Password requirements

New passwords must contain at least one:

  • One lowercase character (a-z)
  • One uppercase character (A-Z)
  • One number (0-9)
  • One special Character (e.g.,!@#$%^&*)
  • 12 characters minimum

Each requirement will change from a red X blobid1.pngto a green checkmark blobid2.pngwhen that requirement is met. You must meet all requirements before your account will accept the new password.

Note: Password cannot match your previous password

Tips for an easy-to-remember password

Creating strong passwords is difficult when you must match so many different requirements. One tip is to think of a word or phrase that will be easy to remember, and replace letters with corresponding numbers or special characters.
Here are some ideas to change an easy-to-remember word or phrase with an easy-to-remember, secure password!

  • A with @
  • E with 3
  • i with !
  • S with $
  • O with 0 (zero)
  • N with &
