Project Admin Resources

As a group administrator, you have direct access to additional resources on topics from best practices to advanced genetic concepts. These can all be accessed from your main GAP Dashboard under the Resources drop-down menu.

  1. Terms & Policies - Group project administrators have access to sensitive member information. As such, they are held to strict policies and practice standards to adhere to various Privacy regulations. This link provides legal guidelines, privacy rules, and compliance standards for administrators. As an admin, you are bound by these Terms and Policies, so it is important to have a thorough understanding of them.
  2. Administrator Quick Start Guide - Offers a step-by-step introductory manual to help new coordinators set up and navigate their accounts.
  3. Help Center Administrator Resources - A wealth of resources are available in the FamilyTreeDNA Help Center. There is an entire section devoted to project administration including dedicated articles for each and every tool and report available in GAP. It even includes the article you are currently reading!
  4. Project Admins Media Library - This admin-curated collection of multi-media resources covers everything from best practices to tips and tricks to in-depth technical articles. More about this section can be found below.
  5. Forums - Admin led discussion board where administrators can collaborate, ask questions, and share insights.
  6. FamilyTreeDNA Blog - Displays official company news, deep dives into genetic research, and success stories.

Project Admins Media Library

This is an Admin-curated list of resources, including past and present articles, videos, how-to's and best practices. While the FamilyTreeDNA Help Center covers all aspects of GAP, including how to use each tool and report available through your GAP dashboard. 

While the Help Center is designed to show you how to use the tools in GAP, the Media Library shows you how to effectively apply them to real-world research challenges. It is created by administrators, for administrators.

This list is organized by topic, and by default all topics are open. You can expand or collapse each section by using the ^ or icons at the far left of each category. The list contains multiple columns of information including the type of media, intended audience, and more. You may need to scroll to the right using your browser's scroll bar to see all categories. 

Most of these are self explanatory, but it is important to note where the link can be found, as this may not be visible when you first visit the page.  

  1. Expand/Collapse - Clicking the up ( ^ ) or down ( ) icons will expand or collapse each section. by default each section is open, so this is a quick way to close unnecessary categories. 
  2. URL - This is the web address of the resource. Clicking this link will direct your web browser to the selected media.
