How Do I Find My New Y-DNA Matches?

The default order of your Y-DNA matches is the highest Match Level you have tested. Each match level is listed in order of Genetic Distance to you. Your closest matches will always appear at the top of each match level, regardless of the match date.

Email Notifications

If you have have set your Email Notifications to On, you will receive an email each time a new match is found at the test level(s) you have opted into. You can learn how to set your email notification preferences here

The email will list the test type and match level of your match. It will also list the kit number where the match was found.

On the Y-DNA Matches page you can sort by the match date or filter your matches to a specific date range. It is also important to note the Match Level of your new match listed in your email notification.

Match Levels

Y-DNA Matches are divided by the level of STR Markers being compared. The options are 12, 25, 37, 67, and 111. When you visit your matches page, the highest level tested is displayed by default, even if there are no matches at that level.

IMPORTANT: Please make a note of the match level indicated in your match notification email. 

Sort By Match Date

To arrange your matches from newest to oldest, or oldest to newest:

  1. Sort By - Click this button to open the Sort By options.
  2. Most Recent Matches - Click this option to arrange your matches from newest to oldest. Repeat this process to reverse the order. 
  3. Match Date - Lists the match date for each match.

To narrow your matches to a specific date range:

  1. Filter - Click this button to open the filter options.
  2. Match Dates - Enter the starting date (or date range) of the matches.
  3. Apply - Click this button to apply the Match Date filter to your matches.
  4. Match Date - Lists the match date for each match.
