Understanding the Y-DNA Discover™ Country Frequency Report

The Y-DNA Discover™ Country Frequency Report is a visual representation of the self-reported countries of origin for Y-DNA haplogroups. It provides a wealth of statistical information about haplogroups and their ancestral path.

It is important to remember that the countries listed are self-reported. This means they are supplied by your matches, and not based on DNA results. This report also includes academic and research samples.

This report can be viewed in Map View or Table View

Using the Country Frequency Report - Map View

The Map view is the best way to view the migration patterns over time of your direct paternal ancestry. It contains the following information:

  1. Toggles between Map view and Table view.
  2. Countries listed by test takers in the selected haplogroup. Hovering your mouse over each country will provide a percentage of the total population of that country that shares the selected haplogroup.

The ancestral path from Y-DNA Adam to the specified haplogroup. Clicking on the White arrow on the right of this line will take you to a timeline detailing each haplogroup.

B.  Clicking this play button will show a time-lapse of each ancestral haplogroup leading to the haplogroup you selected.

C.  A heatmap representing the selected haplogroup. Countries with higher percentages of the selected haplogroup will be darker on this map.
