At FamilyTreeDNA, we aim to provide a seamless and reliable purchasing experience. To ensure fairness and efficiency when processing invoice-based orders, the following policy applies.
Effective Date - This policy goes into effect on July 1, 2025. Starting on this date, any unpaid tests that were ordered more than 45 days prior - regardless of when they were originally ordered - will be subject to cancellation.
Eligibility
Only Group Project Administrators are eligible to place orders using the Bill Me Later option.
Understanding Kits vs. Tests
To avoid confusion when reviewing this policy, it’s important to understand the difference between a kit and a test:
- Kit - A FamilyTreeDNA kit is the physical DNA collection package sent to a customer. It includes the cheek swabs and return envelope used to collect a DNA sample. Each kit is assigned a unique Kit Number, also referred to as an account number, which serves as the identifier for the sample and any associated test orders.
- Test - A test refers to the specific DNA analysis (e.g., Family Finder, Y-DNA, or mtDNA) purchased and performed using the sample from a kit. Multiple tests can be ordered and run on the same kit.
Payment Deadline
Orders placed on invoice must be paid in full within 45 days of the order date. If payment is not received within this timeframe:
- All unpaid tests associated with the order will be canceled. Please note that reminders will not be issued.
- If the kit has already shipped, the tests will be canceled, but the kit will remain active, and new test orders can still be placed on that kit at any time.
- If the test ordered is an upgrade or add-on to an existing kit, the unpaid test will be canceled. The kit and paid tests remain valid.
- If the kit has not shipped, the kit number will be deleted and the kit discarded after 60 days. Once the kit number is deleted, the kit is no longer active, and access to the account through that kit will no longer be possible.
Cancellation Consequences
Group Project Administrators who repeatedly cancel Bill Me Later orders - whether due to non-payment or by request - will lose access to invoice-based ordering. When a test is canceled, you will receive an email notification with the details.
- Once this privilege is revoked, full payment will be required at the time of purchase for all future orders.
Additional Terms
- This policy applies to all invoice orders, whether placed online or through our Customer Service team.
- Price adjustments will not be applied to Bill Me Later orders, including during sales or promotional periods. Unpaid tests cannot be canceled and reordered to take advantage of discounted pricing.
- By placing an order on invoice, the administrator agrees to abide by these terms.
FamilyTreeDNA reserves the right to modify this policy at any time.
