This report shows the journey your direct maternal line took from Mitochondrial Eve hundreds of thousands of years ago up until the present day.
The mtDNA Discover™ Haplogroup Story report contains the following options:
- Branch Age - The age of the current haplogroup you are viewing. This date is an estimate based on genetic information only. This estimate will likely change in the future as more people test and we improve the method.
- Most Recent Common Ancestor - The age of the most recent maternal ancestor shared by all members of your maternal haplogroup.
- Descendent Lineages - Based on mtFull Sequence testers only. At least two non-identical testers (meaning that they share the same haplogroup but not the same haplotype) from a lineage are needed for a new branch to be named and added to the tree.
- Maternal Country of Origin - Self-reported information from FamilyTreeDNA participants. It represents the earliest known countries of origin on their direct maternal lines. This information can be updated in the Earliest Known Ancestors tab of your Account Settings.
- Share Result - Every new mtFull Sequence test result helps improve the tree structure and age estimates. A popular genealogy strategy is to expand your part of the tree by encouraging distant relatives to test.

Haplogroup Badges - These badges represent the ages of human history when the haplogroup(s) have been found. Ages include:
- Timeline - An age estimate (TMRCA) for each ancestral haplogroup, expressed in years Before Common Era (BCE) or after Common Era (CE).
