Understanding Match Profile Cards

If you have opted into matching, you can access your list of genetic matches in the Matches pages of your particular test type(s). Regardless of the type of match (Y-DNA, mtDNA, or Family Finder), clicking on the match name in your match list will display a Match Profile Card as a pop-up window.

Reading the Match Profile Card

The Match Profile Card contains the following sections:

  1. Name - Name of match
  2. Profile - Toggles between the Profile Tab and Notes Tab. 
  3. Notes - This tab displays your private notes for this match. These notes are not visible to your matches. 
    Note: Notes ARE visible to Group Project Administrators to whom you have granted Limited or Advanced Access.

  4. Email - The email address provided by the match.
  5. Wikitree ID - If the match has connected their kit to a Wikitree account, the Wikitree ID will be displayed. Clicking the Copy Link Icon (copy link icon.png) will copy the website of your match's family tree. Pasting this website address into your web browser will take you to your match's tree on WikiTree.
  6. Kit Manager - Lists the person managing the kit if different than the test taker.
  7. Paternal Earliest Known Ancestor - Lists the name, birthdate, and/or country of origin provided by your match as their most distant known direct patrilineal (father's father's father's, etc)

  8. Maternal Earliest Known Ancestor - Lists the name, birthdate, and/or country of origin provided by your match as their most distant known direct matrilineal (father's father's father's, etc)

  9. My Personal Story - Information provided by your match.
    Note: This field has a limit of 1,000 characters.
  10. Y-DNA Haplogroup - The Y-DNA haplogroup for your match. based on either a SNP or STR Testing, depending on the test(s) the match has taken.
    Note: This information is only displayed if your match has opted into Y-DNA matching.
  11. mtDNA Haplogroup - The mtDNA haplogroup for your match based on build 17 of the Phylotree.
    Note: This information is only displayed if your match has opted into mtDNA matching.
  12. mtDNA Haplogroup - The mtDNA haplogroup for your match based on the FamilyTreeDNA Mitotree.
    Note: This information is only displayed if your match has opted into mtDNA matching.
  13. Ancestral Surnames - Names listed by your match on the Surnames tab of their Account Settings.
    Note: This is self-reported information from your match. It is not based on genetic markers.
