Introduction
The Project Profile tools allows Group Project Administrators to enter (and edit) their project’s description, control settings, and more. There are two tabs on this page, Project Settings and Links & Cover:
Project Settings
The Project Settings tab contains the following sections:
Project Information
Project Name
By default, your project name will be the name you enter on your project application. If you find that your project goals have changed, or you wish to clarify the parameters of your project, you may contact the Group Projects team at groups@ftdna.com. While the team can assist in changing the name to any reasonable variation, we do not allow the changing of a project to an entirely new focus, such as a haplogroup project to a surname project. If you find that a majority of your participants fall within a specific geographical, surname, or haplogroup category, you are welcome to apply for a new project that can focus on that subgroup.
Keep in mind that the group project team can assist in changing the name and URL of the project, but it cannot change the other links such as the returning join link or the returning join link.
Project Subtitle
This will appear in the banner of your project website. There is a character limit on the Project Name, so you can use the subtitle to expound or clarify the focus of your project.
Project Description
This description will be displayed to prospective project members while searching the list of projects. You may find it useful to include project goals, expectations, and other important information members should know before joining.
Search Terms
When a prospective group member searches for a project to join, any of the words or phrases you list in this section will apply for their search terms. These can include surnames, locations, historic figures, haplogroups, SNPs, or any other terms you feel are relevant. Each item in this list should be separated by a comma and a space. Example: Johns, Johnson, Johnsen, etc. You can also include search terms that are phrases rather than words, such as "Ulster Scots."

Show this project in the projects list
This refers to the list of publicly searchable projects. Some projects are designed to be for close relationships only, or for specific research purposes, and these are usually private. However if you would like your project to be searched for and joined by the general public, make sure to check this box.
Note: Family Finder projects are not searchable.
Activity Feed
This determines whether or not your Activity Feed appears on your project website.
Links & Cover
The Links & Cover tab contains the following sections:
Project Website
This is the URL to access your project website. This cannot be edited in GAP, but you can copy it to use in emails or on external sites to help guide people to the project page.
General Fund Donations
This is a link to allow people to donate to the Group General Fund.
Join Link
The Join Link is a link that will take prospective members to a page where they may purchase a new kit through the project. Please note that this link is designed specifically for people who have not tested, as it will create a new kit number. If a person has an existing kit, you must send them the Returning Join Link instead.
In some cases a person may have a kit for themselves but will need a kit for a different family member to join the project. For example a female test taker may need to purchase a test for a male family member to join a surname project. This link will help them to do so even if they already have a test for themselves.
Returning Join Link
The Returning Join Link is used for people who have already tested with FamilyTreeDNA and wish to join their existing kit to the project. It is a good idea to instruct potential group members to sign into their kit, and then paste this link into their web browser’s URL bar. This will take them to the project website where they can join by clicking Join.
Banner
Here you may upload an image to display as a banner on your Project Website. You may select an image of your own or select from a gallery of images.
Note: The maximum size limit for the banner image is 2 MB, and at least 1366x250 pixels. Accepted file types: JPG, GIF, PNG.
Once you upload a banner, you cannot remove it, though you can change them to a different image. If you would like to have this space blank, you will need to upload a blank image.
Family Crest
This is the image that will appear on the project website. Family Crests are typically associated with surnames or clans, so if your project does not have an applicable family crest you may upload a different image such as a historical landmark or notable ancestor.
Note: The maximum size limit for the Family Crest image is 2 MB and at least 200 x 200 pixels. Accepted file types: JPG, GIF, PNG.
Once you upload a family crest, you cannot remove it, though you can change them to a different image. If you would like to have this space blank, you will need to upload a blank image.
